Santa Barbara Fires

It is hard to try to blog about smart food and money choices when our seaside town is in flames. As of this morning, November 13th, over 1000 acres have burned and 100 homes have been burned. Some of the homes that were incinerated were friends’ homes. It is devastating. So on this note my blog for today is solely a friendly reminder to make sure that you have full replacement insurance coverage on your home and that you understand your coverage. The conversations today have inevitably turned to insurance coverage in the unlikely, yet horrible possibility of your home going up in flames. Please make sure that your square footage replacement cost coverage is close to the actual cost that it would be to rebuild your home.

For those of you tracking this in Santa Barbara here are some local services for this weekend. A-American Self Storage has offered moving vans, movers and storage for those in warning and mandatory evacuation areas. Santa Barbara Bank and Trust is giving out Los Arroyos gift certificates and free rooms at the Maramonte Hotel. You can find other up to date information on the fire and local support agencies at www.keyt.com.
