I have a few bar code scanning price apps (Red Laser, pic2shop, ThriftHunter) on my iphone, but my favorite price checker is Amazon's own app. It doesn't offer bar code scanning, but it does search by UPC code, ISBN, title, product name or other identifier.

Since we are professional resellers, I use Amazon's app in thrift stores constantly. Current market prices let me know what I can afford to spend, and I love having the product reviews so handy. Even if it's cheap, I often like to know what other people think of it before I buy.

Time and again, I've put a $4.99 item back on the shelf after reading a string of 1 and 2-star Amazon reviews.

Another great iPhone app for personal finance is the Wikinvest Portfolio Manager app. It tracks all of your investment accounts in one place by synchronizing directly with your brokerage accounts. I like it because it lets me keep track of my investments and the markets in real time. It also has a great news feature. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wikinvest-portfo...

An app I find useful, and it's free, is ""searchit" you type in what you're looking for and they give you links that carry it so you can compare prices.
