How to Save on Cosmetic and Skin Care Products

How to Save on Cosmetic and Skin Care Products

There are thousands of cosmetic and skin care products on the market.  One good thing about that is you have more options and choices, but the downside is figuring out which product to choose.  Finding the right product is hard but finding the right product that does not cause you to go over budget is even harder.

The one thing that many people forget when it comes to cosmetic is: what works for me may not work for you.  I’m saying this because I know too many people who go out trying to find what is “new and hot” (products typically recommended by magazines) without knowing that they can find something similar for cheaper.  There is nothing wrong with products recommended by magazines, but you have to keep in mind that there are many products that are similar or virtually the same.  It is up to you to find what is good for your needs that will save you from spending more money than your budget allows for.

Lets take a look at some options you have that can help you save on cosmetic and hair care products…

Drugstore Brands VS. Department Store Brands

Want to know a little known fact?  Many drugstore brand products are made by the exact same manufacturers as higher priced department store brand products. So think twice about spending money on department store products over drug store products.

Before you start shopping for cosmetics, know what you are looking for and know what you need.  Find out which shades of eye-shadow work well with your eye color, which blush color work well with your skin complexion, and most importantly what is your skin undertone.  Knowing the answer to these questions will help you eliminate products when you are shopping, especially when there are no testers.

Once you figure out what you are looking for, find out more about your product of interest and TRY it out before you purchase it.  Most of the times there are no testers at drugstores for you to try but there are reviews all over the Internet that you can find.  Stores such as Sephora and Ulta offer reviews from customers on their website.  Also, check out Maybelline New York’s website offer a personal shade and product guide to help you find the right product for you.

Choosing the right color of foundation can be tricky, so try shopping at stores that will allow you to exchange your purchase for another color is necessary.  Bringing in the products that you are currently using to compare color will also help.  Your goal is to find the right product that cost less but works better for you.

Here are some products from drugstore that I find work as effectively as department store…

Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser – $6.36

All of the products I have recommended above here work effectively and are all under $15!  The way I see it, there is no need to spend too much money on cosmetic and skin care at department stores when you can spend 50% less and still get products that will work great for me, sometimes even better than those you spend $65 + on.
